This means by my arithmetic anyway that 77% of people find their dating experience disappointing especially if they’ve paid for membership and failed to attract the people they like.
So why do the majority of online daters fail to find their perfect match?
Let’s consider these possibilities:
- They’re so ugly no one wants to date them
- All members on dating sites are fictitious
- Their dating profile is being overlooked
They’re so ugly no one wants to date them
I think we can safely discard this possibility since I subscribe to the view that there is someone for everyone and on some of the bigger sites there are literally millions of attractive people.
All dating site members are fictitious
Yes it’s true to say some dating sites have been found guilty of this malpractice and it’s also true to say that most dating sites spend a lot of time and effort to ensure their members are genuine and not scammers.
Let’s face it it’s in a dating site owner’s interest to ensure members are happy with their service and of course this applies to any service business so I think we can safely discount this possibility too.
Their dating profile is being overlooked
This is a much more likely possibility. Indeed I know from having used dating sites for three years and being the founder of four dating sites myself how eminently forgettable many profiles are.
Many have no pictures – please forgive me for stating the obvious here – people who join dating sites are not excited about the prospect of going on a blind date!
Others have scant information – certainly not enough to enable you to decide whether you should send them a flirt or email.
Then there’s the “this is my life” profiles. These are usually used by people who see dating profiles as an opportunity to vent their anger, disappointment or sadness about their current or past lives. Honestly some of these tales of woe are so bad they can make you feel suicidal.
They really should seek counseling before dumping on poor unsuspecting previously optimistic singletons.
Spelling and grammar errors plus bad language are not a winning combo either and I’ve seen a few examples of these – well actually quite a few! Some people might find these traits attractive though especially others who can’t spell and use bad language!
Judge Judy types too abound and need to be warned it’s not a good idea to find someone guilty of a crime before he or she commits it!
I’m thinking here of those acid comments such as “and if you think I’m an easy lay think again!” or “gold diggers needn’t apply” and suchlike.
So all in all it’s not too difficult to see why just 23% of people establish long term relationships from their online dating activities.
Yes you’ve guessed it their online dating profiles are simply not attractive and in some cases downright repugnant.
